Overview
Census Web is an add-on to the Census and Census Enterprise bug tracking system.
Census Web allows access to a Census project (database) from a Web browser.
Census Web provides cross-platform support and support for distributed teams.
Census Web allows developers/testers, vendors, and customers to view the status of existing problems, submit new problems,
and edit existing problems from around the world.
How does Census Web work?
Census Web is installed and runs on an NT Server running Microsoft Internet Information Server.
No client software is required.
Census Web uses ODBC to connect to a Census project.
Census Web supports both Census (Microsoft Access backend) and Census Enterprise
(Microsoft SQL Server backend).
Users log on to Census Web using a Web browser. (Census Web supports both
Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.)
Census and Census Web share the same logon names. Census group privileges determine which projects a user can open.
Census Web's easy-to-use browser interface allows users to submit new defects, view, and modify information in a Census project. Users can run predefined
queries or run ad-hoc queries.
What is included with Census Web?Census Web includes the following two components:
The Census Web Server
Software that is installed on a company's Web server that provides access to a Census project (database) through a standard Web browser.
The Census Web Server software is implemented using Active Server Pages (ASP).
Some source code is included.
The Web View Editor
A Windows application used to create and edit Views and customize field attributes.
