Web View test drives:
| Note: |
To run Census Web, you need Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later.
|
Census Web provides web-based views of Census projects.
Each Census Web view is customized to meet the specific needs of a class of users. For example, customers on a beta list don't need to see all the defects in the project database, just the defects submitted by the beta list. And they don't need to see any fix information added to the defects by the developement staff. Internal development staff, on the other hand, needs access to all the defect information in the project database.
With Census Web, you can provide separate views for external customers and for internal developement staff. Each view is accessed through the same web-based interface (which is the same interface as the Windows version of Census).
Views are easy to define using the Census Web View Editor. Just choose a set of queries and fields that you want to expose in the view.
In the test drives, you'll see views for internal users and views for external customers. All views are of the same project (BugTrk).
Internal View with Visual SourceSafe Integration![]()
In this Internal view, users can link issues to source files in a Microsoft Visual SourceSafe database and perform version control operations such as check out and check in.
In the Internal view, all global Census queries are available, so users can access all defect records, and all fields on the defect record are available.
The Internal view is ideal for development staff who need access to all defect information.
In the Customer views, users can access only the defects they submitted, and view a limited amount of defect information.
The Customer views are ideal for customers or people external to the development team who need to enter defect information or view the status of defects.
In the Submit-Only view, users can submit new issues, but they cannot run queries or view existing issues. A Submit-Only view is a data entry form for new issues.
Submit-Only web views allow an unlimited number of users and customers to submit defects and feature requests to Census databases from their Web browsers.
